We have announced a new product that further advances our carbon neutrality efforts over the past few years.
Since 2000, AD CORE DEVISE has been working on full-scale sustainability. For packaging, they have eliminated petroleum-based protective materials from all products and are using natural and recyclable materials. As part of their efforts to become carbon neutral from 2023, they will reduce the use of tropical wood, including lauan wood native to Southeast Asia, and will release a model for 2024 made from 100% domestic wood. From January 2024, all plywood over 12mm thick for AD CORE DEVISE sofa products will be made from domestic softwood plywood, accelerating their efforts to become carbon neutral.
・About wood use
In Japan, where only coniferous trees have been planted for hardwood furniture, it is nearly impossible to harvest hardwoods such as beech, and we have no choice but to rely on imported materials. However, we select and use approved tree species that are part of a sustainable forest management system, such as oak, white ash, and maple from North America, and beech from Europe. Furniture often uses wood not only for the surface material but also for the internal structure, and the usage rate is by no means low.
AD CORE DEVISE is increasing the use of domestic softwood plywood in the structures of its sofas, and will begin experimenting with the use of environmentally friendly materials in its chairs starting with the 2025 model.
・As a new material
The back and seat of the 2025 model MD-1201L have traditionally been made of beech veneer, but starting with this model, we have decided to use plant fiber linen cloth inside to reduce the amount of beech used. This has allowed us to reduce the amount of wood used without sacrificing the strength of the back, and has also reduced warping of the beech. Although it is a small change to the wood (changing three out of ten panels to linen), we believe it is an important initiative in our quest for a sustainable society.
Instead of using lauan plywood or beech veneer for the seat, we used pressed plywood made primarily from cypress. Cypress is a hard and resilient species of conifer. By using cypress as plywood, we aimed to create an environmentally friendly product without sacrificing strength.
・About fabric
AD CORE DEVISE standard fabrics include highly safe fabrics that are antibacterial, antifungal, anti-odor, anti-stain, waterproof, anti-static, etc. Most of these standard fabrics are Eco-Tec 100 certified, so they are not only safe for customers to use but also for everyone involved in production at the factory.

・NC-075 Kidney Sofa ▶︎
The Kidney Sofa has a flowing, organic form. Its kidney-like organic shape features soft, asymmetrical curves and a voluminous seat and back. Its form and function allow it to be placed independently in any space, without restricting seating positions. With its organic minimalism and luxuriously voluminous silhouette, the curves at the bottom of the frame give the impression of floating in space.
The frame is made entirely from domestically produced cedar or cypress plywood, and the back is made from hardboard made from domestically recycled paper, so 100% domestic materials are used.
・MD-3212 Living room table ▶︎
The MD-3212 is an elegant living room table with soft legs and available in a variety of sizes. A new 600cm high cafe table and a round triangle tabletop shape that is easy to match with round spaces have been added.
・MD-1201L Lounge Chair ▶︎
The 1201 chair is inspired by the Scandinavian modern design that flourished in the United States in the 1950s, and is popular for its design that does not waste natural materials, its frame with a craftsmanship feel, and its gentle form. A lounge chair has been added, which is an evolution of the dining chair and is now larger.
The molded plywood used for the back is not just beech veneer, but also fast-growing hemp cloth sandwiched between it to reduce the amount of forest material used.The molded plywood used for the seat is made of cypress and cedar, increasing the use of domestic materials and promoting carbon neutrality.
