Eco-friendly product design

While environmentally conscious products often have a natural feel, using plenty of wood, at AD Core Design, we believe that true environmental friendliness lies in the product's internal structure.

Rather than superficially using only the precious white outer layers of timber, we believe that truly protecting the environment means using every part of the wood, including the red core, black core, and knots. We also believe that our contribution to carbon neutrality lies in using environmentally friendly and people-friendly materials that minimize carbon dioxide emissions, even in the unseen aspects of modern design.

SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

Product manufacturing utilizing domestically produced timber and recycled materials

Much of the furniture manufactured domestically relies on imported materials. For example, the plywood used in sofas is made from lauan wood from the South Seas, and this plywood is imported by sea, with domestic distribution also contributing to carbon dioxide emissions.

At AD Core Design, we aim to create products that are more environmentally conscious. For the structure of our sofas, we use over 80% domestically produced plywood (coniferous cedar and cypress plywood) that contributes to domestic forest conservation and carbon sequestration. For the cushioning material of our chairs and sofas, we use over 80% urethane foam made from scraps and recycled ribboned foam (chip foam) generated during factory production.
We use fabrics that meet the world's highest safety standards.

RESPONSIBLE FABRICS

Fabrics that are considerate of people and the environment

We actively use Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified fabrics, which meet safety standards for over 350 types of hazardous substances.

Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is a fabric certification that represents the world's highest level of safety for products, targeting hazardous substances. It is a fabric that has received certification not only for product safety but also for sustainable factories that take into consideration the impact on people involved in production and the environment. AD Core Devices has decided to use fabrics that have received Oeko-Tex 100 safety certification.
We have also started using recycled fabrics, aiming for more environmentally conscious manufacturing.

LOCAL PRODUCTION

A carbon-neutral initiative using local materials and processing them locally.

The domestically produced plywood we currently use is produced at a plywood factory near Hita City, Oita Prefecture, where our sofa factory is located. The factory boasts state-of-the-art facilities that minimize environmental impact, and uses only locally sourced coniferous trees such as cedar and cypress, harvested within a 100-kilometer radius of the factory, to process into plywood. By manufacturing the sofas at our nearby plywood factory, we minimize carbon dioxide emissions during transportation from the timber factory to the plywood factory and from the plywood factory to the sofa factory.
Furthermore, the cedar and cypress trees will be planted and managed to increase carbon dioxide absorption.

Our sofa factory operates at an extremely short distance from the source of the timber to the finished product, contributing to ultimate carbon neutrality.

Packaging Materials

Review of packaging materials

We have completely eliminated the use of fossil fuel-based plastic covers and polystyrene foam as protective materials during product packaging, and have begun a full-scale commitment to sustainable product manufacturing by using only recyclable materials.

We have discontinued using plastic covers for protective covers on chairs and sofas and now use non-woven fabric. While some non-woven fabrics are typically derived from petroleum, we use naturally derived non-woven fabric that is considerate of the soil after disposal.

Instead of the polystyrene foam used as cushioning material for tables and other items, we use recycled paper, ensuring that we utilize renewable cushioning materials. For some items, such as packing bands and protective packing materials, where petroleum-derived products are unavoidable, we use recycled materials to demonstrate our commitment to environmental responsibility.
